SPEED WRITE: INFORMATION REPORT ON STARS


This is my ABC world cloud.







Today’s learning focus- WALT to write an information report on stars in 40 minutes.






My Information Report Success Criteria:

My heading/title:


  • is an interesting title (I might have phrased the title as a question.)


My opening paragraph/introduction:


  • says what my report is about in a clear way


  • gives a general “classification” – and maybe a technical classification


  • outlines the main features of the subject


My main paragraphs/body paragraphs:


  • have clear topic sentences  (topic and main point)


  • are organised so that each paragraph is about a different aspect of the subject


  • give detailed information (factual descriptions)


  • include specific, technical vocabulary


  • are generally balanced (have a similar amount of detail about the different aspects I write about)


  • may have helpful: tables, pictures and/or diagrams to add information

  • draws the report together/sums up my main points


  • may give a personal opinion; ask the reader a question and/or tell the reader where further information may be found

Life cycle
The huge clouds of dust and is called Nebula. Star are born in a great cloud of hydrogen gas and dust called Nebulae.The Sun is about 5 billion year old.When a star is about to die there atoms turn into a heavier chemical.Star seem to be fixed in the sky and differnet timed.The star are



Type of star
A very hot mass called a ‘white dwarf’.There is a star called orion hunter.There is a star called a red super giant.The Sun is a type of star and is a closet star to Earth.There is a star called Betelgeuse.



Appearance
Most star are too small to shine as bright as the sun.Some star are big or small.Small:cool star,big:hot and brighter.Our Sun is a Middle sized star.Star are differnet colours and they also differnet sizes.

WHY DOES THE MOON LOOK DIFFERENT EVERY NIGHT?



In Week 6 of Term 2 our class focussed on how to write great explanations.We wrote about the Moon’s different phases as we are in the middle oflearning about Planet Earth and Beyond. Learning how to write a greatexplanation will help us with our self-guided topics in a few weeks time.Here is my writing, after I have self-assessed and peer-assessed my work.



Can you believe that the Moon changes shape every night? This happens because the Moon orbits the Earth on a tilt while the Earth is orbiting the Sun. I will be talking about the phases of the Moon.

Paragraph 1
When the Moon orbit the Earth, the Moon shows the same side to us. The sun's light shine to the Moon and this makes a shape. Some people think that the Earth’s shadow is covering the Moon, but this is not true. It is about the amount of the bright side we can see as the Moon moves through its orbit.

Paragraph 2
The phases of the moon is when the Moon orbits the Earth. The first phase is the new moon and it is when the Moon is all black. The next Moon is called waxing crescent and it looks like a banana on the right. After the banana moon, you have the first quarter and it looks like half of the circle. Waxing gibbous is the fourth shape and then you have the full moon. The full moon looks like a volley ball and it is all bright. After the full moon, the moons before are the same but on the opposite side.
